A reliable publication for the Diaspora

It was with a rather ambivalent and frankly apprehensive mind that I first mulled over an invitation from Indian Newslink to be its Singapore-based Correspondent.

The Edition had mooted the idea towards the end of last year knowing that I was born and had my entire upbringing and career in Singapore.

It was with much trepidation therefore that I finally agreed because I realised I had to live up to his expectations with responsible reporting, and more importantly that I had to contribute to the publication’s image, integrity and credibility.

My presence in Singapore as the focal point of South East Asia with easy proximity to India and the rest of Asia had also placed me in an advantaged position to report on events taking place in this region.

Good Reputation

I have been a long-time reader of Indian Newslink and came to the conclusion that it was a community newspaper of repute and standing. It has been highlighting the voice of the Indian Diaspora in New Zealand and the rest of the world. With a print edition readership of more than 50,000, it is the largest circulated Indian newspaper, catering to the extended Indian community, including Indians from India, Fiji, South East Asia, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, Nepalese and people from the Middle East.

The publication is also being read online increasingly by European, Maori, Pacific Islander and other ethnic groups worldwide. To enable a wider reach, the publication is distributed free through major Indian outlets throughout the country. Its web resource attracts more than 2000 visitors every day.

Exclusive stories

The reporting content of the publication ensures exclusive and investigative articles, reports, features and news items covering politics, education, business, property, employment, community, crime, entertainment and sports. It also provides ample room for feedback.

News and analyses of developments in India, Fiji, South Asia and the Middle East are also covered through arrangements with other publications, media agencies and contributors. Special reports and features published throughout the year on various segments of the community, businesses, events and festivals are a speciality, attracting wide advertising and reader interest. This is seen by the growing interest and feedback from readers in various parts of the world including India, Fiji, Australia, the Middle East, the Far East, Europe and the US.

For example, an event that is attracting wide attention is the forthcoming Sixth Annual Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards ceremony to be held on November 18, 2013 at Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland.

To work alongside such an organisation by sharing stories of events in the lives of Indians and on Indian community affairs in Singapore and the region has therefore given me an amazing opportunity to inform and project the image of these countries in the eyes of foreigners, not only in New Zealand but also in the rest of the world

Being an accredited correspondent overseas, I feel honoured and privileged to augment the fund of knowledge disseminated by Indian Newslink to its avid readers.
