A trendsetter in quality and price

One of the most important aspects of franchising is building the brand with concepts of quality, competitiveness and uncompromising service, all of which should stand the test of time.

Moshims Discount House in Hamilton is among the harbingers of a brand that believes in facilitating customers to shop for all their daily needs under one roof at prices that would be indubitably lower than other similar retail stores.

Umesh Reddy and his wife Kanta state with pride that Moshims Discount House is not only the first Indian grocery shop in Hamilton but also one of the first in the franchise chain that extends to several places in New Zealand.

They are also proud to have Tarsem Lal as a part-time employee.

New migrants from India who are used to their own choice of soap, toothpaste, confectionery and other items can be assured of regular supply at this store.

“There are also several other brands that you cannot find in major supermarkets like Countdown and Pak N Save. These are Indian soaps, hair oils, first aid medicines and many other items that are good for the body,” a customer said.

While people from India and the Sub-Continent are assured of the brands that appease them, customers of all ethnicities can be assured of their daily milk, bread and dairy products, which are fresh and perhaps cheaper than other places.

From groceries and specially packaged items, fruits, vegetables, meat and other products to the day-to-day needs of customers, the retail store brings new meaning and purpose to customer care and satisfaction, a testimony borne by an increasing number of customers.

“While the Indian community finds our store convenient and complete, about 40% of our customers are Kiwis of European origin. Apart from catering to their needs, our shop hours (Monday to Friday 830 am to 7 pm, Saturdays 8 am to 6 pm and Sundays 10 am to 5 pm) are convenient,” Umesh said.

The retail store, occupying 320 Sq mtrs is fast reaching its saturation point. Increasing brands, expanding items and growing customers have all made the place inadequate forcing the Reddy family to seriously look for alternative premises.

“We would like to move to another place which is larger, has scope for further expansion and offers greater comfort to our customers,” Umesh said.

Except for those shopping for wine or beer, everything could be purchased at either of the two Moshims Discount House stores. These would range from chapattis, rotis and other bread (both fresh and frozen), several types of rice, wheat, flour, pickles and other items to suit one’s budget, soft drinks and juices, readymade and ready-to-cook packet meals, confectionery, skincare, oral care and other products and toiletry items.

The family run company is known for its business acumen and purchasing goods directly from the source to offer them at unbeatable prices. It is indeed a tribute to the management and staff of the company that its customers belong to all nationalities, since apart from products that appeal primarily to Indian families, its extensive range also appeal to a cross-section of the society.
