ANZ celebrates Diwali, Festival of Lights

ANZ is proud to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, for the eighth consecutive year, sponsoring a variety of special celebrations throughout New Zealand and holding its highly-anticipated customer functions in Auckland and Hamilton.

“Every year it’s a privilege to be involved with the festivities that take place up and down the country and show our support for the cultural diversity that enriches New Zealand,” said Andrew Webster, ANZ General Manager Auckland.

“New Zealand and India enjoy a strong relationship, with 52,000 Kiwis travelling to India and close to 60,000 Indians visiting us between March 2015-2016. This year we’ve helped nearly 7,000 Indian customers into a banking relationship with us and we continue to help people moving to New Zealand with our Migrant Banking Package,” he said.

Rangoli Theme

This year’s ever-popular ANZ customer function in Auckland centre around the theme ‘colours of rangoli’. The word Rangoli is from two words, ‘Rang’ and ‘Aavali’ which means, Row of Colours. The designs that will feature at the event are made to celebrate an auspicious occasion and are thought to bring good luck.

ANZ has also marked the festivities by decorating a select number of ATMs with unique Diwali surrounds, which feature a special ‘Rangoli’ designed to celebrate the festival. These can be found at 11 locations in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.

Cultural Performances

ANZ will also be sponsoring local Diwali Market Day’s over Labour Weekend. The Christchurch Diwali event on 22 October will feature performances by local performers from different states of India, traditional and folk dances and authentic Indian food stalls. This will be followed by the Waitakere Diwali 2016 event on 23 October is set to be one of the greatest festivals in the region. ANZ is also encouraging people to get their year off to a prosperous start by taking up the opportunity to book in a free financial health check with an A-Z Review.
