Attempt to abduct teenager in Auckland

NZ Newswire

Auckland, August 15, 2016

A hunt is on for a man who tried to force a 15-year-old girl waiting at an Auckland bus stop into his car.

Police say the teen was waiting for her mum to pick her up on Beachcroft Avenue in Onehunga at about 4 pm on July 26 when the stranger pulled his car up next to her and said he had been sent by her mother.

The teen refused to get in, at which point the man got out of his car, grabbed her arm and tried to pull her in.

He fled at speed when a group of teenage boys ran towards the bus stop.

“We believe the boys may have scared off the man and we’d like to hear from them,” Detective Sergeant David Paea said.

He said police had been unable to identify the man and hoped the boys, believed to be about age 15, could provide some clues to find him.

Police say the man was about 40, average build, dressed in a dark suit and driving a white, four-door sedan.
