It would be once again be an occasion to take a few steps back in time and revel in the melodious songs of the yesteryears as one of the most dedicated musical duo put together an event to remember.
Dharmesh Patel and Shyamal Raval of ‘Swaranjali,’ a group of music-lovers are organising the programme from 630 pm at Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar School on Saturday, August 13, 2016.
Called, ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya,’ the show will feature a number of local artistes including Arif Ziya, Arpita Chanda, Dharmesh Patel, Jayasree, Jyoti Rajesh, Hemant Shirsat, Nishtha Raval, Shyamal Raval and Vibha Trivedi.
Hemant Thaker, one of the most popular instrumentalists (Keyboard) of our community is a major source of strength for ‘Swaranjali.’ As well as helping in the selection of songs, he has also been vested with a number of other responsibilities.
Hemant and five others have formed, ‘Gurus of Groove,’ exclusively for performing at the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards held at Sky City Convention Centre in November every year.
Musical Journey
Mr Raval said that ‘Swaranjali’ symbolised a musical journey of evergreen hits of songs featured in Hindi films several decades ago. Since our debut with ‘A Tribute to O P Nayyar’ in June 2009, we have been encouraged by a large number of friends and music enthusiasts to organise shows that feature songs that are generally not heard on the New Zealand musical circuit. ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’ has taken some time in coming but we are confident that it would appeal to our people.,” he said.
Mr Patel said that ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’ would have a perfect blend of songs which are popular not only today but will also stay as hits for generations to come.
“We have conscientiously tried to include those songs which rarely performed in Auckland. We are confident that the audience will love them,” he said.
Explaining the six-year absence, he said that he and his friends were determined to make ‘Swaranjali’ resonate with evergreen melodies, bringing joy and memories to the old and the spirit of a bygone era to the young.
Finest Compositions
Guests at the show can expect to listen to the compositions of many maestros who have immortalised their works along with the voices of singers, most of who are no longer with us. Some of them would be such great composers as Roshan, Madan Mohan, Shankar Jaikishan, Sachin Dev Burman and Rahul Dev Burman to mention a few. Among the voices that would be recalled with emotion would be that of Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor and many others.
Some of the songs which we understand would be rendered at the show are ‘Hum The Woh Thi Aur’ (from film ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’ released in 1959); Dil Ki Girah Kholdo’ (‘Raat Aur Din’, 1967), ‘Nazar Na Lag Jaaye’ (Night in London, 1967), ‘Bechaara Dil Kya Kare’ (‘Kushboo’, 1975) and ‘Aisa Sama Na Hota’ (‘Zameen Aasman’ 1984).
There would also be songs to enable the younger generation to connect and enjoy. Sample: Rahat Fate Ali Khan (‘Main Tenu Samajhawan Ki’ from ‘Virsa,’ 2010).
