Awards Night brings excitement

Preparations are in full swing for the third Annual Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards Ceremony scheduled to be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Alexandra Park in Auckland.

A panel of judges, independent of Indian Newslink, is evaluating the entries received in 13 individual categories and the winners of the ‘Supreme Sportsman of the Year’ and the ‘Supreme Sportswoman of the Year’ Awards.

The Awards Night will acknowledge and honour sportspersons of Indian origin who have brought laurels to their sporting clubs, cities and New Zealand in their chosen sport.

It also seeks to provide a platform to recognise the growing impact of Kiwi Indians in the sports.

The ideals

This newspaper hopes that the winners this year will attract the attention of commercial entities which play a pivotal role in felicitating financial requirements of sportspersons in their quest for glory.

The goal is also to create role models for the Indian community, thereby encouraging more young people to take up sport.

The Awards Programme is designed to help youngsters to condition the minds of their parents to support sports as a profession, since an active lifestyle can help tackle the menace of obesity plaguing our society.

The Sports Awards Programme is an example of how New Zealand offers every one equal opportunity to excel in their chosen field reassuring the fact that talent and hard work do not go unrewarded.

Memorable event

The Awards Night promises to be a memorable event.

With sportspersons occupying a pride of place, efforts are made to intersperse the programme with onstage interaction with winners. These give us an insight into the mind of athletes and know them better.

Last year, Convenor of the Judging Panel Sergeant Steven Smith (of Counties Manukau Police) donned the mantle of an interviewer with amazing ease.

The Awards Night also looks to create an atmosphere in which guests get an opportunity to intermingle with the sportspeople on a personal level.

Live entertainment forms a part of the Awards Night, adding colour and zing to the event.

Food is an essential component of any celebration, with a variety of tasty Halal food.

Tickets, priced at $70 are now available.
