Bank of Baroda appoints new director

Prominent Auckland based businessman Wenceslaus Anthony has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of Bank of Baroda (NZ) Limited.

His appointment followed the resignation of Vijaya Vaidyanath (former Waitakere City Council Chief Executive) who will take charge as the Chief Executive of the City of Yarra in Melbourne on July 2, 2012. She is at present Director of Corporate and Business Services at Darebin City Council in Melbourne.

Mr Anthony is the Chairman and Managing Director of the WAML Group Limited with commercial interests in New Zealand, Australia, India, Sri Lanka and other parts of the world, Director, Business Solutions Limited (New Zealand) and PACT Industries Pty Limited (Australia).

Varied interests

He is also connected with a number of organisations including the India New Zealand Business Council (Chairman), International College of Auckland Business Advisory (Chairman), Group Divine Retreat Centre Movement (Chairperson), Conquest Club (Director), Mother Teresa Interfaith Committee (Chairman) and Roman Catholic Church (Member).

Mr Anthony said that he was proud to be associated with Bank of Baroda, one of the most progressive commercial banks in India and in several countries, including New Zealand.

“My late father was a banker and he was keen that I should be involved with the banking industry since he believed that every bank should function as the financial heart of the community, helping to make every individual progressive and prosperous. I believe that his wishes have come true with my appointment as a Director of the Bank of Baroda (NZ) Limited,” he said.

Mrs Vaidyanath said that Mr Anthony will bring added value to the Board of Directors of Bank of Baroda (NZ) Limited.

“His wide experience and business acumen will be a great asset to the Bank. I am happy with his appointment. I look back with pride at the growth of an Indian bank in New Zealand. My time with Bank of Baroda has been rewarding, fulfilling and enlightening,” she said.

Branches

The Bank opened its first Branch in Auckland City at 114, Dominion Road (Mt Eden) in June 2010. It now has two more branches, one each at 55 Featherston Street (Wellington) and 726, Great South Road in Manukau (South Auckland).
