Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB), which ails from a number of ills, has a chance to redeem itself with the appointment of Rabin Rabindran as its Deputy Chairman.

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman announced his appointment along with others on Friday, December 2, 2016, saying that having the right people governing our DHBs is vital to ensuring that New Zealanders have access to health services needed by them.

“DHBs are on the frontline delivering $12.2 billion in important health services to their local communities. The newly appointed DHB members and chairs have a wide range of skills and will make a valuable contribution,” he said.

The Ministerial Order covered 76 appointments throughout New Zealand. It included 38 new appointments with seven new chairpersons.

Delightful opportunity

Mr Rabindran said that he was delighted to be accorded an opportunity to serve the residents of Counties Manukau.

“I look forward to fulfilling my responsibilities,” he said.

A prominent Barrister and an expert in several specialised areas, Mr Rabindran has had many governance and management roles across the industrial and commercial sectors of New Zealand.

He is currently Chairman of Bank of India New Zealand Limited, Director of Auckland Transport and Solid Energy.

His earlier assignments were Chair of Auckland Regional Transport Authority, Director, Manukau Water, Tomorrow’s Manukau Properties Limited, TMPL (Flat Bush) Limited and MBf Carpenters Ltd, an Australian public company with extensive interests in the Pacific region.

Wide expertise

His expertise includes strategic planning, risk management, structuring, negotiating and financing major national and international projects in energy, construction, infrastructure development and transport.

As well as being involved in major projects in more than 25 countries, he has worked with the World Bank and major corporations and has acted for Governments, multinationals and local authorities.

In New Zealand, he has chaired various public hearings panels including the 2012-2015 Regional Land Transport Programme and the Election Signs Bylaw.

In addition to his long association with transport in Auckland, he has worked on several international projects, among which was as Advisor to the Transport & Engineering Institute of Vietnam, a government agency responsible for transport projects in that country and as Advisor to an Asian Development Bank funded road project in India.
