Black Leopards get new life

The Black Leopard Cup will have its inaugural T20 Tournament next year.

The Tournament is based on the country of origin, run by Auckland Cricket. They could not afford to run the tournament and hence was taken over by Jaspal Kohli and Sanjay Sharma, who have rejuvenated the event.

Sponsored by Allcold Refrigeration Limited and Black Leopard Sports, the latter, a sports company established by Mr Kohli, the forthcoming tournament will comprise a 16-team competition, split into four groups, who will play each other in the knockout stage.

The toppers from the groups will play quarterfinals, semi-finals and final. Each team will play four games and we hope that the winning team would get an opportunity to play against a ‘Celebrity 11.’

All teams will be provided uniforms similar to that worn by IPL teams, and a team kit, which will have pads to match the colour of the uniforms.

The games will be played using pink balls and stumps.

Each game will be officiated with a main umpire supplied by Auckland Cricket and there is a possibility that scoring will be done by iPad, allowing for an update scorecard for fans.

Recognition & Rewards

The most important part of the Tournament is that the major prize for the winning team is $1000, with the Runner-Up receiving $600.

Other prizes include ‘Man of the Match’ for each game receiving an English willow cricket bat. The bowler with the most wickets, the batsman that scores the most runs and the player that hits the most sixes will each receive a full kit bag.

The Tournament will be held at Keith Hay Park with Eden Roskill Cricket clubrooms used as the base where all functions will be held.

The Tournament will start on January 13 with the final held on February 10, followed by an Awards ceremony, at which the winner will be honoured with the Black Leopard Cup, and each player of the winning team would receive a medallion.

Registration closes on November 15, while team fee is due by November 30.

Arun Ranchhod is an organiser of the Tournament. Phone: 021677525. Further information can also be obtained from Samir Lala on 027-2334924;
