BNZ enhances value of Indian Business Awards

We are proud to announce that BNZ Partners has confirmed Title Sponsorship of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards (IBA) again this year.

In announcing their decision, top officials of BNZ Partners said they were impressed with the IBA 2011.

BNZ Partners Central Auckland Senior Partner Lyndon Settle said that he was happy to announce the Bank’s support of IBA 2012.

“The Indian business community plays a vital role in New Zealand’s economy. It is growing at an exponential rate across a range of innovative industries and makes a significant contribution to New Zealand’s economic success,” he said.

“As BNZ celebrates its 150th anniversary, we are proud to be part of this exciting community, helping to drive its on-going success. We look forward to seeing another year of high calibre Award entries and celebrating the best that Indian business has to offer,” Mr Settle said.

Apart from Title Sponsorship, BNZ Partners is also sponsoring the ‘Best Large Business’ category and the ‘Supreme Business of the Year’ Award.

We are also gratified that most of the sponsors of IBA 2011 have confirmed their support to the Awards scheme this year.

Our sponsors are leaders in their industry and are among the premier commercial organisations of the country, with well-known brands in the market.

Category changes

We have made a few changes to the Awards categories this year.

As well as introducing the ‘Business Excellence in ICT’ category to reflect the growing importance of Indian companies in the information technology industry, we have revised the conditions of entry to the ‘Business Excellence in Customer Service’ category.

Other changes include deletion of the ‘Business Excellence in Property Investment’ and ‘Business Excellence in Agriculture and Horticulture’ categories and a separate category each for ‘Best Small Business’ and ‘Best Medium-sized Business.’

Independent Judges

One of the most significant aspects of the Awards scheme is its robust judging process. A panel of judges, representing a broad spectrum of the commercial sector, directly received the entries and evaluated them under the Chairmanship of Chad Wilkie, who has decades of experience in management, consultancy and judging business awards for other organisations as well.

There are many good reasons for Indian-Kiwi companies and businesspersons to enter the Awards programme.

It is a competition between businesses to celebrate the best in each category and the best of the best for the ‘Supreme Business of the Year Award.’ The winners and finalists in each category will be announced at the Gala Awards Night cocktails and dinner to be held at the Sky City Convention Centre on November 19, 2012. The guests at the event, media and New Zealanders in general will see the winners and finalists as successful business leaders.

Mr Wilkie said that he has interviewed hundreds of business owners over the years, all of who are keen to talk about their business, identifying the key factors that have made them successful, compared with their competitors.

“Business people are competitive; the market conditions in which they operate require them to excel in understanding customer needs and provide services or products better than their competitors do.

“Whilst many businesses may be cautious about disclosing their key information, they do not miss an opportunity to be seen as a top class business by competitors and customers, provided there is a secure, independent and confidential process for reviewing their information,” he said.

Secure and Confidential

Mr Wilkie said the judging process is secure and confidential, carried out by independent judges and hence the entrants can be sure that their key information will be protected.

“Most businesses have a plan for success, but often it remains in the owner’s head. The structure of the IBA entry form provides a great opportunity to review that plan under carefully chosen headings.

“The questions review the business in a modified ‘Bell Mason Diagnostic Format,’ asking about goals and strategies, products and services, markets and sales, people and governance and systems for management,” Mr Wilkie said.

He said there are more specific questions under individual categories.

“There is a phrase, which has become a cliché in management circles; it is important to take time to work On the business and not just In the business.”
