BNZ pioneers ‘Indian Community Banking’

BNZ, one of the largest commercial banks of the country, has just launched a new initiative to promote the growth and success of Indian businesses.

Ansuya Naidoo, a Senior Partner at BNZ Partners in Central Auckland based at Deloitte Centre on Queen Street, has been appointed as the Head of the new unit, called, ‘Indian Community Banking.’

Lyndon Settle, Managing Partner of BNZ Partners (Central Auckland and North Shore) said that the move was aimed at boosting the Bank’s support to the Indian business community in New Zealand.

Booming India

“India, alongside China, is one of the world’s fastest growing economies and BNZ is seeing an increasing demand from customers to do business with the booming Asian nation. The growing demographical change in Auckland and New Zealand represents a significant opportunity in this community for the bank,” he said.

Mr Settle said that the Government had recently announced India trade flow aspirations that accrue significant trade and migrant banking opportunities.

This new role will focus on these aspirations and the development, delivery and leadership of Indian strategy across the bank. Additionally, it will also have responsibility for market share growth and innovation,” he said.

Exciting times

Ms Naidoo said that she was committed to not only represent BNZ in the Indian community, but also to make a meaningful contribution to the community’s future prosperity.

“These are exciting and defining times both for the bank and for Indian people in New Zealand,” she said.

Mr Settle said that with her significant experience in the banking industry, Ms Naidoo is ideally placed to drive BNZ’s aspirations for its Indian business and retail customers.

“BNZ is committed to supporting the growing communities that make up the changing face of Auckland and New Zealand. Ansuya’s appointment highlights BNZ’s desire to be involved and ingrained in the growth of this community, its business interests and ambitions,” he said.

Ms Naidoo has held a number of senior business banking roles both in New Zealand and South Africa.

Since joining BNZ in 2000, she has gone from strength to strength and delivered impressive results on a number of significant projects, Mr Settle said and added, “I am looking forward to seeing her continue to excel in this role.”

Business Awards

Ms Naidoo said that BNZ has been the Title Sponsor of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards since 2011 as a part of the Bank’s efforts to promote the interests of this important business community. The Bank is also the Sponsor of the ‘Best Large Business’ and the ‘Supreme Business of the Year’ Award.

“We are happy that the Awards Scheme has been able to encourage Indian businesses to have in place sound business plans and strategies. BNZ looks forward to this year’s Awards Night programme to be held on November 18, 2012 at Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland,” she said.
