Bollywood Dance School comes to town

Members of the younger generation keen on learning a range of modern dances will now have a unique opportunity of obtaining accreditation to a popular dance school based in Mumbai.

Bosco Caesar Dance Academy, which has built an enviable reputation in the Indian film industry, has just opened its first Australasian franchise in Auckland to promote the art among interested youngsters and adults.

Manjul Harilal is the Creative Director of the East Auckland based Bosco Caesar Dance School (BCDC), which is now enrolling students to its various courses.

“The School will engage the youth in Hip Hop, Locking and Popping, Jazz, Latin Contemporary, Bollywood and Semi-Classical styles of dancing.

“I believe that the youth in general and boys in particular, must be fully occupied and dance is a medium of exercise, removing boredom and making them physically and mentally healthy.

“It is a medium to develop self-esteem, and confidence, enabling the individual to express creativity and accept and appreciate cultural diversity,” she said.

A qualified Mathematics and English teacher, Ms Harilal is known to engage youngsters in creative art through motivation, patience and perseverance.

If the best means of growth and progress come from within, then her son Nikhil and daughter Arya could be cited as good examples.

Both have been rated as top dancers in competitions held at Diwali festivals in Auckland in recent years.

Arya, who is yet to reach her teens, is among the youngest dancers, who will be featured in Taj Mahal: A Dance Drama due to go on stage next year.

Aiswarya Entertainments Limited is producing the historic tale that will debut at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre in Auckland on March 31, 2012 (Indian Newslink, July 15, 2011).

Ms Harilal is justifiably proud that her children were trained at the Bosco Caesar Dance Academy in Mumbai recently.

Dance has taken the world by storm, with choreographers like Bosco Martis and Caesar Gonsalves adding to the glory of the art, Ms Harilal said.

“They have choreographed dance sequences for many Bollywood movies, picturised on popular stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Rani Mukerjee.

They were among the judges at the Chak Dhoom Dhoom 2010 contest shown on ‘Colours’ Channel.

Ms Harilal said Shri Arora, another qualified and accomplished choreographer has joined the School as a teacher.

“Shri has been dancing for more than 25 years and is a qualified dancer and teacher. Trained in a number of dance formats, including Indian Classical dance of Kuchipudi, Contemporary styles, Jazz and Hip Hop, she will bring value to the new Dance School,” Ms Harilal said.

She said Shri has rich experience of choreographing a number of dance sequences for locally organised performances over the past four years.

“She is a winner and will be a source of motivation to students.”
