Boxing bout in aid of Cyclone Relief

Faiyaz Khan – Boxing bout promises- Faiyaz Khan

Fijian boxer Sabastian Singh will participate in a challenge on Saturday, March 19, 2016.

He will take on Kiwi Number 1 Jordan Smye.

Local pugilists Riaz Khan, Tai Ratuere and Mohammed Mubin are also in the fixtures fighting in their professional spheres.

The first match will commence at 6 pm.

New Zealand National Boxing Federation is organising the matches at the Auckland Boxing Association Hall in aid of the victims of Tropical Cyclone Winston in Fiji.

The proceeds will be sent to the Fiji Prime Minister’s Hurricane Relief Fund.

Other Lightweights

Fijian promoter Praneel Dass is expecting the Fijian Diaspora to come out in numbers to support Sabastian, especially since he would get a shot at International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Under 23 Lightweight title in Fiji.

I have been a referee at three boxing bouts of Sabastian in Fiji with Sabastian in the ring.

There is increasing expectation that he would win the match in Auckland.

“He will be the next Joy Ali if he keeps to his training plan.”

In his last fight in Labasa, Sabastian stopped Waisale Ratu in the second round with a shower of punches.

Entertainment

The 10-fight programme would be good entertainment for Fijians. But they would also think of their families and friends who have borne the brunt of Cyclone Winston.

Members of ‘Fiji Relief 2000’ will have a stall at the Boxing venue. They will serve kava for $5 with the proceeds going to the Fiji Prime Minister’s Hurricane Relief Fund.

Ayyaz Khan, who will be the Master of ceremonies has requested all soccer players to come along and see the fitness level that boxing demands and adopt it in their own games.

Faiyaz Khan is a referee, judge and Board Member of the New Zealand Boxing Federation. He also trains referees and judges in Pacific Island countries.
