Breaking Point – Reduce Immigration Now

Winston Peters

Sunday, June 5, 2016

New Zealand must reduce immigration to between 7000 and 15,000.

With immigration pouring the equivalent of the population of New Plymouth in each year, and taxpayers pushed further back in hospital queues, we are at breaking point.

More than half all immigrants settle in Auckland. Motorways are clogged and housing is unaffordable and scarce.

“Immigration must focus on benefits to New Zealand – people we need, not people who need us.

Those who have the skills to fill jobs in the regions should get higher points.

We should interview everyone.

They can come from anywhere in the world but only if they salute our flag, respect our laws, and not have attitudes against women. They must not treat women like property – like cattle.

Winston Peters is an elected member of Parliament from Northland and is the Leader of New Zealand First Party. The above are excerpts from the comments that he made on TV One’s ‘Q&A’ this morning.

Q&A reported on a Treasury analysis that warned the record levels of immigration (124,000 people a year) could push Kiwis out of low-skilled jobs, hold down wages and increase pressure on housing.

Mr Peters warned on TV One’s Q&A that New Zealand should scrutinise applicants.
