Celebration marks end of summer

The rebuilding city of Christchurch observed another colourful event that remarkably invigorated the mood of Cantabrians.

The much-awaited and well-organised ‘Summerz End Youth Festival,’ staged in open air at the Christchurch Jellie Park on Saturday April 5, was witnessed by nearly 3000 people especially the youngsters across the City.

The event included the Titanic Band performance, Food Festival, Painting competitions, Singing, Dancing and an extremely colourful Fashion Show in which a number of national groups participated.

The Festival was all about connecting a cross-section of the youth, giving them a sense of belonging to the City and its cultural diversity.

It was a great mix of everything and was an amazing showcasing of young talents.

The Festival was a project of the Christchurch Migrant/Refuge Council, funded by the Christchurch City Council and a number of organisations including the Lincoln and Canterbury Universities, New Zealand Police and the Fire Force.

A large number of commercial entities and associations had their stalls set up around the Park during the day-long Festival

He further writes, “Rahul Abraham, featured in our February 1, 2014 issue (‘Teenage achiever does Cantabrians proud’) was set ready to attend Youth Parliament 2013 on behalf of Richard Prosser MP. But he unfortunately became unwell the previous night and hence could not attend the Youth Parliament. He had sent an apology to Parliamentary Services, which conducts the triennial event.
