Clean environment helps Halal Butcher

Food 4 Less Supermarkets in Otahuhu and New Lynn follow a strict policy of hygiene and cleanliness in their Halal Butcher department.

At the end of every trading day, the Butcher supervises thorough cleaning of all the machines and equipment in use. He also ensures that all the meat is stored in the freezer at the right temperature.

Food 4 Less Supermarkets commenced the Halal Butcher department in Otahuhu about seven years ago and in New Lynn about a year ago.

Their reputation for quality and service has grown over the years, leading to customer satisfaction.

The supermarkets do not sell beef or pork.

The department concentrates on Halal products including lamb, goat, chicken, sausages and patties.

The butchers in both supermarkets are fully certified by the Federation of Islamic Associations in New Zealand (FIANZ).

Habib Khan, who manages the department with Shiraz Hussain in Otahuhu, said that right certification was important in the Halal market.

“We comply with all the rules and conditions of Halal,” he said.
