Community networking fosters retail business

If you are one of those connected to social and community websites, you would undoubtedly come across this Hamilton store announcing daily or weekly specials on fruits and vegetables.

Facebook has become a major marketing and communication tool and perhaps Arun Chadha of Kiwi Fresh was among the first to realise its value.

His Facebook page is updated at least once a day to announce what is in store.

Mr Chadha, who manages the store with his wife Shama, knows the value of customer service and customer satisfaction, having been employed (as Assistant Manager) of the State Trading Corporation in his native India.

He is also aware that New Zealanders look for quality goods at reasonable prices at a retail store that stocks and trades most items of their need at a location that is not far from their home.

Which is why, amidst a host of shops, dairies, superettes and supermarkets that sell fresh vegetables and fruits everyday of the week, Kiwi Fresh enjoys a higher level of public confidence and patronage.

Public endorsement depends on quality, price, convenience and availability.

Kiwi Fresh, located at 15 Bader Street, Hamilton, scores high on each of these.

While New Zealand prides itself of being one of the largest exporters of meat and dairy products to most countries of the world, the fact that it is also a significant producer of vegetables and fruits cannot be either overlooked or undermined.

Mr Chadha purchased an ongoing business in April 2003 (months after migrating from India) and since then, invested all his time and money in developing the business, which according to him has been on track.

Kiwi Fresh also stocks frozen Indian and Fijian vegetables, in addition to an extensive range of spices, grocery and other items that an average family would require day after day.

“I am gratified that the number of customers and the volume of business have risen substantially over the years. We are open for business from 8 am to 8 pm all days of the week. Our customers say that these hours are convenient for them. We are here to serve them,” he said.
