Divinity extols Motherhood in India

Honouring our divine Great Mother is a pilgrimage crossing the maze of self.

This little act of paying homage to our mothers is uniquely designed by ancient traditions to reawaken and unearth the dormant memories of her sacrifices to raise her children.

Mothers are the spiritual beings helping all of humanity in our spiritual rebirths from the sacred womb of the Divine, and are true spiritual guardians.

Likewise Goddess worship is one of the longest religious traditions in Hinduism.

When born, the cellular umbilical cord is not only the divine link between you and your birth and ancestral mothers, but also to the Sacred and Divine mother Goddess.

Mother’s day is the perfect opportunity to remember your spiritual and divine purpose.

Adi Shakti

The concept of Shakti grew out of a conflict and eventual compromise between a powerful matriarchal culture that existed in India before the Aryan migration (2500 BC) and their male-dominated society.

Mother Goddess of the Indus Valley people never really gave place to a dominant male.

The Earth Mother continues to be worshipped in India as the power that nurtures the seed and brings it to fruition. This basic reverence of farming people reemphasises the fact that everybody is really dependent on woman for she gives life, food and strength.

Worshipping Mother

Worshipping the Mother dates back to celebrations to honour Rhea, the Mother of the Gods in ancient Greece, with offerings of honey-cakes. We must respect these traditions and be inspired to respect all women figures in life.

Within the entirety of Godhead, Shakti is the harmonising pole of the divine tendency towards serenity and peaceful coexistence.

The term Shakti refers to multiple ideas. Its general definition is dynamic energy that is responsible for creation, maintenance and destruction of the Universe. It is identified as female energy because Shakti is responsible for creation, as mothers are responsible for birth. Without Shakti, nothing in this universe would happen.

Hinduism epitomises all Mothers as manifestations of the Goddesses. Worshippers view their Deity as the all-powerful Supreme Being, second not even to a male God..

Important reminder

Mother’s Day is an important reminder in every person’s life to celebrate the piousness of Shakti’s love as the source for the universal well-being. It is a reminder for every human being of the feminine force within, which creates and nurtures the key components of life.

The time has come to foster and nurture this creative aspect within ourselves by knowing that each moment must be homage to honouring this sacred power.

On this Mother’s Day, we should also honour the Divine Mother who brought us to life.

Healing power

Planting a sapling to heal our planet, the mother earth can be our way of cherishing the Divine healing power through nature. Hindus have been calling the Holy Basil Mother Divine. The Tulsi plant is referred as ‘Tulsa Ma,’ and growing plants and flowers harmonises our surroundings just as mothers do. The family that performs a prayer or ritual together as one usually will have strong bonds.

Some flowers like, Carnations are referred as Mother’s Day flowers.. Crimson represents gratitude, and affection. White carnations are offered in memory of deceased mothers, Lilies symbolise the purity of Motherhood.

Indians offer marigolds and many flowers like hibiscus to Goddesses.

The significance of Mother’s Day is deeply rooted in all cultures. Let us celebrate this day to remind ourselves that the feminine power is the absolute power.
