Diwali, the festival of lights is upon us.

The biggest festival of the Indian calendar, this celebratory period of Diwali is also eyed favourably by the Indian film industry to release highly awaited films, top lining major stars.

This year, Diwali will welcome Salman Khan starrer ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ release worldwide on November 12. Co-starring Sonam Kapoor (whose debut film ‘Saawariya’ also featured Salman) it will be a musical family drama.

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is the fourth film with the team work of director Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan. The duo has given Indian cinema three of its biggest hits in ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (Salman’s first film as a leading actor) ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ (the most successful celebration of an Indian wedding on screen with melodious music) and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ (a modern take on Ramayana released in 1999).

Naturally expectations are high from this pair, collaborating after 16 years.

Family entertainer

Rajshri Productions, producers of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ are known as family entertainers. In this film too, the focus seems on an extended joint family, and its ups and downs. For Sonam- Prem Ratan Dhan Payo provides an opportunity to deliver a big hit, and try and break into the top bracket of Hindi film heroines.

Sonam and Salman ae portrayed as an attractive screen couple in the promos.

Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher and Swara Bhaskar are also in the cast.

Armaan Kohli, fresh from his success on the Indian television show ‘Big Boss,’ will also be seen on the big screen after a long time in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.’

But there is no doubt as to who the audience would be most excited to see in a traditional family man avatar -none other than Salman Khan.

The Megastar

Salman Khan is undoubtedly the biggest star of Hindi cinema today.

His latest film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan,’ released on the first day of Eid-Al-Fitr, has been the biggest hit of the year. The release of a Salman Khan film is considered to be an event of national importance in India. Hindi cinema has hardly seen hero worship of such a magnitude since the heydays of Amitabh Bachchan.

Himesh Reshmaiya has composed the music to the lyrics of Irshad Kamil. His responsibility was to deliver popular music maintaining the record of Sooraj Barjatya.

The music has been played daily during the recent Navratri season which witnessed the ‘Dandiya’ every night.

The film has been dubbed in Tamil (‘Prema Leela’) and Telugu (Meymarandhen Parayo).
