Eminent Barrister, our Master of Ceremonies

Brian Stephenson, one of the most renowned barristers of the country will be our Master of Ceremonies at the Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture scheduled to be held at Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland on Monday, July 30 from 630 pm.

As a schoolmate and life-long friend of Sir Anand, Mr Stephenson is a specialist in Employment Law and Industrial Relations.

Beginning his career in broadcasting and journalism more than 40 years ago, he gained experience and expertise in human resources management, first in broadcasting and later in the energy industry. He evinced interest in the legal profession and became a full-time student when he was 37 years old.

Mr Stephenson was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor a few days after he marked his 40th birthday.

He lectured in Industrial Law at the University of Auckland Law School and wrote legal textbooks and articles. Following a ten-year tenure as a full-time member of the Employment Tribunal, he is currently dong his second term as an Adjudicator of the Tenancy Tribunal.

Mr Stephenson has traits of an adventurer, spending time as a tramper, skier and mountaineer, especially backcountry skiing.

He is a former President of the Alpine Sports Club and the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand (of which he is now Special Vice-President).

He has been a member of the Board of the New Zealand Walking Access Commission since its inception in 2008 and is in his second term as a member of the New Zealand Conservation Authority.
