The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has announced the closure of submissions for its seventh season of competition, ‘The Moment.’

Submissions were accepted on the official HIPA website, www.hipa.ae with the deadline for submissions being midnight of October 31, 2017 (UAE Standard).

The final week saw a sharp increase in submissions with photographers vying to enter their works into the competition’s four main categories; ‘The Moment,’ ‘General,’ ‘Portfolio’ and ‘Time-lapse.’

HIPA has also announced that judging for the seventh season of competition will take place this month with full details of the judging panel to be released shortly.

Increasing submissions

HIPA Secretary General Ali bin Thalith said, “We are delighted by the large number of submissions that we have received in the past three months when the competition was open. The past week was particularly frantic with thousands of photographers looking to enter their submissions in before the competition’s deadline. This interest was likely driven up by the introduction of the new ‘Time-lapse’ category which allowed video submissions into HIPA for the very first time. We look forward to seeing all the submissions during the judging period in November and I wish all the photographers that took part this season the very best of luck.”

Beacon of Arts

According to him, the vision of Dubai Crown and HIPA Patron Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has helped HIPA to become a beacon of the arts at the regional and international level.

“We have seen that after seven years of sustained success and exposure that photographers from all around the world are flocking to HIPA to take part in the annual competition and we welcome all those that wish to take part,” Mr Thalith said.

Workshop ends

HIPA also recently concluded a workshop focused on ‘Time-lapse photography’ at its headquarters in Downtown Dubai.

The workshop was presented by time-lapse specialist Alexy Frangieh and saw a large attendance from local amateur and professional photographers interested in this unique artform.
