Equal power boxers to clash

Fiji’s promising middle weight boxer Opeti Tagi has finally landed with an opportunity to fight New Zealand’s Gunner Jackson for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Middle Weight Championship title.

The match will be held on Friday, December 13 at Papatoetoe Cossie Club, located behind the Papatoetoe Town Centre.

With both pugilists equally matched, the forthcoming bout will be a thriller with eight other matches to be held on the same day.

This will be a real test for Tagi to become Number 17 in the world of Middleweights.

I have been in contact with the Boxing Commission of Fiji and requested them to make sure that Tagi is fit when he arrives here in Auckland a day before the fight.

The promoter has paid him an advance to enable him to be well-trained and physically fit as this Title fight will be over 12 rounds.

Both boxers have equal hitting power and hence the person who punches well will score the highest number of points.

Faiyaz Khan is a referee and judge at the New Zealand National Boxing Federation. He has been a referee for both boxers. Further information can be obtained from him on 021-2609104
