Every photograph must talk and let us talk about it

The eternal question remains unanswered: If the camera does everything, when will you learn photography? A series of talks may provide the answer.

Photography as an art form has more to it than just owning a good camera and creating visually stunning photographs.

Through a single well-thought photograph of a passionate lover of this art form, one can discover the photographer’s life, thoughts, ideas and beliefs.

Photography is the finest form of communication, which, if used wisely, can speak more than a thousand words in a single frame.

It is a lot like writing, where the use of words, concept, story and planning is as important as having a notebook and the will to write.

Understanding Photography

There are infinite amount of people, who own a Digital Single-Lens Reflex Camera (DSLR), love clicking pictures, many even work professionally, but, sadly, do not understand this side of photography.

People simply see pictures through their eyes and not through their soul, thus fall for the aesthetics of the picture, without trying to understand the deeper meaning, its soul.

This perception reflects in their work as artists of the next generation, and leads to the growth of aesthetics of photography as an art form, but it is beginning to lose its meaning.

Lifeless stills

We are losing the story behind every picture, the story that is more than just a pretty thing to behold. This leads to the chaotic world of endless visuals without deeper meaning or life in them.

Shoot as much as you like, click around a 1000 pictures a day, if you can, but remember to always click meaningful.  As soon as you start shooting meaningful and put your soul in your photographs, the visual appeal will follow, and the world will see your soul.

As experienced visual artists, it is our responsibility to take up the burden of this falling side of photography, and revive it to its fullest potential.

New Journey

We need to tell a story through our frames and not make pretty postcards. And in an effort to revive the thought behind the process, I am embarking on a new journey involving a series of talks throughout New Zealand. I hope you can join me.

Ashok Kochhar is one of the most renowned photographers of Indian origin. His photographs now appear regularly in Indian Newslink. He is undertaking a major photography project involving people, places and events in New Zealand. Indian Newslink will be an active promoter of this fascinating and innovative project, the details of which will emerge shortly.

Mr Kochhar is also keen to enable people to understand the ‘real art’ of photography. He is embarking on a series of talks about how a visual can be converted into a complete story, by putting the right amount of energy during the process.

Through many practices and tricks that he has developed over many years as a photographer, he is keen to his knowledge to all artists looking for inspiration and guidance in their fields.

He hopes to hold talks at various Universities and Social Creative groups, and achieve the task of creating Soulful Art, that touches the soul and heart.
