Exhibition in aid of Child Cancer Foundation

An exhibition of paintings by an internationally known artist will be held in Auckland later this month.

The paintings, created by Bhanu Shah under the theme, ‘Raga of Rainbow’ will be held at the Lumley Centre on Shortland Street in Auckland’s Central Business District from June 22, 2012.

Proceeds of the two-week long exhibition would be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation of New Zealand.

According to a press release, the ‘Raga of Rainbow’ collection brings together the abstract nature of music and colours.

“The fusion of colours, tones and hues, corresponds to the notes and scales of Indian classical music ‘Raga,’ which Mr Shah listens to while creating his work. Raga literally means colour, hues or shade. It has five to seven tones and components.

“Rainbow is a visual phenomenon of nature expressing five to seven colours. It has the ability to tease the human mind with an array of colours and beauty. Mr Shah attempts to depict this auditory to visual transformation of music to canvas,” the press release said.

Paediatric Surgeon Dr Vipul Upadhyay suggested that the exhibition be held to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation.

Seventy-Eight-year-old Mr Shah has held over 29 solo and 48 group exhibitions in India and abroad. He received 15 awards including a national award in India in 1968 and a Lifetime Achievement award in 2000.

His paintings are held in private collections in India, US, UK and Canada.
