Experience the divinity of ‘Mohana Veena’

If you have not booked tickets for you and your family for a forthcoming programme of the world’s foremost player of the ‘Mohana Veena,’ you should do so without further delay, for we understand that expression of interest from music lovers for this event has been strong.

Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, winner of a number of awards, including the Grammy, will display his rare talent with the rare instrument at the concert, due to be held at Dorothy Winstone Centre of Auckland Girls Grammar School on Saturday, March 16 at 630 pm.

Sargam School of Music Principal Basant Madhur, who we have known as a ‘gentleman tabla player,’ will perform with the visiting artiste.

Divine Music

The event is a joint effort of the Sargam School of Music, the Mohammed Rafi Academy of Music and Lotus Foreign Exchange as a tribute to the late Pandit Ravi Shankar, who showed the world, “the power of divine music through the Sitar.”

A video clipping of the deceased maestro will be shown at the concert, along with performances by Sargam students Surbhi Sharma (Violin), Prashant Kumar and Akhilesh Madhur (Tabla).

Pandit Bhatt, a disciple of Pandit Shankar claims an impressive lineage that dates back to the musicians and performers at the court of Akbar the Great (October 14, 1542 to October 27, 1605), the most benevolent emperor of the Mughal era in India.

The greatest contribution of Pandit Bhatt is the revitalisation and ‘Indianisation’ of the ubiquitous Hawaiian guitar.

Called, ‘Mohana Veena,’ the modified instrument incorporates the strings of Sitar, Sarod and Veena, and an acoustically design to produce melody that has captured millions of hearts across the world.
