Fasting accrues divine blessings

Ramadan Ul Mubarak to all our Muslim brothers and sisters.

Ramadan denotes the Month of Fasting; Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahma Tullahi Wa Barakatuhu. All praise to Allah Subhan O Tala, the Creator and the Sustainer of His Universe, and my Salaam and Salutations to our Holy Prophet Mohammed.

Fasting is a very ancient form of worship. It has been made compulsory in the dogmas of every religion since the days of Prophet Adam, though the number of days and other conditions of fasting differ.

It has been made compulsory for every Ummat.

In religious law, fasting means abstaining from eating, drinking and co-habitation by every adult Muslim, whether man or woman free from impurities, with intention of worship from dawn to dusk.

There are five days during which, fasting is prohibited. They are on the day of Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha and on the Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth days of Dhu Al Hijjah, the month of Hajj.

Prophet’s Teachings

The Holy prophet said that there are eight entrances to Paradise. One of them is ‘Ryyan, ‘the gate for those who fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The following are some of his teachings:

· Fasting is the shield against hell and a strong fort to protect against hell

· There is a tax (Zakat) for everything and the tax for our body is Fasting and Fasting is equal to half penance

· Every person who has observed only one day of fasting for the sake of Allah would be taken away from hell to such a long distance that it would be equal to the distance covered by a crow that flies from its birth to death

· In human terms the distance would be equal of 70 years of travel

· The prayers of those fasting are never turned down at the time of Iftar (the time of breaking fast)

· Those fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan, realising its limits and abstains from all acts prohibited will be compensated for their bad deeds of the past

· If people knew the significance of Ramadan, they would desire that it be continued throughout the year

· If one gets an opportunity to spend the Holy Month of Ramadan in the Holy City of Mecca and observes fasts and keeps awake at nights worshipping Allah as much as possible, Allah will bestow upon him the reward of (1) 100,000 days of Ramadan (2) freeing one prisoner each day and each night (3) participating in the Holy War on horseback every day and (4) writing good deeds in his account every day and every night
