Free Seminar on employee rights

Do migrant workers have the same rights as New Zealand citizens and permanent residents?

Can those given refugee status raise their voice against work and other discrimination?

What are the avenues available to address these challenges?

These and other questions will be answered at a Seminar on ‘Employment Rights in New Zealand,’ scheduled to be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.

Organised by Raeburn House, the Seminar will be held from 930 am to 1230 pm at Level 1, Norman King Building (Opposite Northcote Library), Norman Square, Ernie Mays Street, Northcote, Auckland.

Worker entitlements

Settlement Support Advisor and Project Coordinator Delaram Khezri said that the seminar will assist newcomers be aware of employee rights in the Workplace, including types of employment agreements, leave entitlements and Employment Relations Service.

“Experts from Waitakere Community Law Services and The New Zealand Human Rights Commission will give their presentations on related aspects. The Seminar is open to public and entry is free,” she said.

She said that a social networking session will be held on the following day (February 26) at the same venue from 10 am to 12 pm.
