Get ready to go aloft with Veer Manpreet Singh

The Man with the Golden Voice will be Auckland this month

Self-discipline begins with mastery of thought. If you don’t control what you think, then you can’t control what you do.

Worry ends when faith in God begins.

He is all pervading, everywhere. Oh, my mind, meditate on him forever.

Divine Guru is my mother, Divine Guru is my father; Divine Guru is my Transient Lord and Master.

God is one. God is Supreme.

These are some of the teachings of the Great Gurus of Sikhism, each revered as ‘Gurudev.’ Each of them is a narration of Veer Manpreet Singh, whose voice is not only mellifluous and mesmerising but also inspiring and motivating.

Auckland Performances

He will be in Auckland later this month to perform on four occasions.

His first appearance will be on January 24, 2018 from 7 pm to 830 pm at Shri Guru Harkrishan Sahib located at 3034, Great North Road, New Lynn.

His second performance will be on January 27 from 11 am to 1230 pm at Shri Dasmesh Darbar located at 166 Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe.

Nanaskar Thath Ishar Darbar at 98 Great South Road in Manurewa will be the venue for three religious concerts as follows:

January 27: 7 pm to 1230 pm; January 28: 11 am to 1230 pm; and 7 pm to 830 pm.

Further information can be obtained on 027-2702494.

Veer is not just a singer of Kirtans and speaker on religion at Gurdwaras around the world; he is an exponent of everything that is great about Sikhism and everything that is Divine and pious. It is hard not to become his silent admirer after listening to Kirtans, notably, ‘Tuhi Tuhi,’ ‘Mere Babu Mai Baura,’ ‘Deh Shiva Bar Mohe’ and ‘Hai Gobind Hai Gopal.’

From Jhansi to Baru Sahib

Born in Jhansi, a town famous for Jhansi Fort, in Uttar Pradesh, India, Veer was drawn into spiritualism by his parents at an early age. When he turned 14, he was admitted to the Akal Academy in Baru Sahib, known as the ‘Divine Valley of Peace’ in Himachal Pradesh.

Under the meticulous tutelage of Dr Iqbal Singh at the Science-based Institution, young Veer learnt Kirtan, recitation of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the values of Sikhism in daily life through Sewa (service to others), Kirt Kamayi (working hard with honesty) and Vand Ke Chakna (sharing one’s earning with the needy).

Knowledge at Jwaddi Kalan

Five years later, he joined Jwaddi Kalan, an Academy in Ludhiana, managed by the late Baba Sucha Singh.  Acquiring additional knowledge of Gurmat Sangeet and attaining classical training in music under the guidance of Ustad Jaswant Singh Bhanwra, Veer continued his academic pursuit and obtained a degree in Commerce.

“My experience at Baru Sahib and Jwaddi Kalan gave me a solid foundation to improve in Kirtan, religious sermons and discourses on mind and matter. I also had opportunities to travel extensively in India spreading the wisdom of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji,” Veer said.

Britain calling

A few years later, an opportunity arose to go to United Kingdom as a Minister of Religion. Veer studied ‘Comparative Studies of World Religion’ under the expert guidance of Dr Sukhbir Singh Kapoor, a well-known writer on the Sikh Faith.

“This inspired me to spread the universal message of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, applicable to one and all, going beyond caste and creed, resting on the mind and its potential,” Veer said.

The Tuhi Tuhi Walle

Veer is famous for his ‘Tuhi Tuhi,’ which is considered his Signature ‘Shabad.’

‘Shabad’ refers to a hymn or paragraph or sections of a Text that appears in Holy Books- in the case of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib.

Veer said that many of us are unaware of the power and depth of the Shri Guru Granth Sahib. “My mission is to raise the awareness of the teachings of our Gurus and how we can use these to enrich our daily life.  Being human is having a fulfilling sense of love, life, generosity and compassion. Our way of life, as laid out by our Gurus, begins with humility. They lived their lives as normal, down-to-earth human beings but the wisdom that they acquired brought out their divine qualities to the fore,” he said.

The Globetrotter

Now a resident of the United Kingdom, Veer is globetrotter with repeated programmes in Kenya, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia (where he is a facilitator at a Sikh Youth camp) and New Zealand, at each of which he extols the teachings of the Gurus.

Veer Manpreet Singh’s Shabads and Kirtan Programmes are available on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud as well as live recordings on his Facebook page.

His albums, ‘The Journey Begins,’ ‘Mera Mann Loche,’ ‘Sabh Gobind Hai’ and ‘Ek Tuhi’ are available on iTunes. The Tuhi Tuhi app can also be downloadable free from iTunes.

His new Album, ‘Ek Tuhi’ is to be released soon.
