Grand Welcome awaits guests at Sky City

High-ranking officials of the Government, political and business leaders and professionals will get together at the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards (IBA) Presentation Ceremony at a Gala Black Tie Dinner scheduled to be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Sky City Convention Centre (New Zealand Rooms).

The event will commence at 5 pm with an exhibition of Sponsors, cocktails and networking in the adjoining Promenade Marlborough Rooms.

The management of the Sky City Convention Centre and a number of other organisations are coordinating efforts to ensure the success of the Awards Night, which will witness the announcement of finalists in 12 different categories. Winners in each category and the winner of the ‘Supreme Business of the Year’ Award will be presented with trophies at the Ceremony.

Lifting standards

Convenor of the independent Panel of Judges Chad Wilkie said that the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards Programme was launched in 2008 to lift the business standards and processes of Indian businesses that contribute greatly to the New Zealand economy and the society.

“During this Awards programme, we have learned that Indian business is no different from the wider business environment; there is a significant need for improvement in the standard of governance and accountability in business,” he said.

Vital exercise

He said that the participating organisations see the larger picture and the inherent benefits. “Besides celebration of success, finalists and winners send a positive message to customers and attract new business, raising their profile. The entry process enables them to analyse their performance, understand market realities and plan for their future.”

He said that the workshops (conducted in May, June and July) were useful to the participants to not only understand the Awards process but also consider innovation as a part of their growth process.

“Business Awards encourage companies to review their performance from different perspectives, affording them a unique opportunity to benchmark themselves against others, get honest feedback on what is working and what aspects of the business require improvement,” he said.

Pause, Plan & Progress

According to Mr Wilkie, Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards also address other important business issues.

There is a phrase, which has become a cliché in management circles – it is important to take time to work on the business and not just in the business. It highlights an issue for many business owners – they work so hard on the day-to-day issues that they do not spend enough time to understand where the business is heading over the next three to five, and on a plan to get there, he said.

“Entering the Business Awards forces the senior management or business owner to pause and reflect upon their business using some carefully chosen questions, and as a result, identify gaps, which will need to be addressed if the business is to continue to be successful,” he said.
