High Schools join dance contest

The annual dance competition organised by Ace Talent Promotions has taken a step forward with the inclusion of High Schools.

The ‘Dance Intermediate and High School Dance Off’ will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Logan Campbell Event Centre, Greenlane, Auckland.

Ace Talent Promotions Director and Organiser Azhar Adam said that the Intermediate School Contest will be held from 330 pm to 630 pm followed by the competition for High School students at 730 pm.

Registration is still open for schools to compete in both categories, he said.

Demonstrating talent

“These competitions not only provide opportunities for budding artistes from our community to demonstrate their talent and seek recognition and awards but also create a platform to test their proficiency and raise their profile. Many contestants have looked beyond our Competition to try their luck at such nationwide programmes as ‘Dance India Dance,’ New Zealand Got Talent’ and ‘Shortland Street.’

Mr Adam said that the annual Dance Competitions also enable students to gain self-esteem and self-confidence.

“The event is open to people from all ethnic groups and we welcome diversity. This year’s theme is ‘Fusion,’ and hence we would like to see a blend of Bollywood with other cultures in New Zealand. The young members of our communities will undoubtedly put up a spectacular show,” he said.

Raffle Prizes

Noel Leeming Papatoetoe (Hunters Plaza) is the major sponsor of the competition. All those purchasing special raffle ticket (priced at $5) will enter a draw with a 60” and 40” Television set as the first and second prizes respectively and an Android Tablet as the third prize. Guru Travel will offer a return air ticket to Sydney (Australia) to two winners, one each at the two competitions.

While individual tickets are priced at $10 for Intermediate and $15 for High School competitions, those keen on witnessing both contests can purchase a combined ticket valid for both at $20 per person. Tickets will be sold at Monuments Video (Otahuhu) Valley Fresh (Papatoetoe), Indian Sweets & Video (Manurewa) Rhythm Video (Henderson), Three Kings Spice (Mount Albert Road) and at participating schools.
