Hindi film macho coming here

Venkat Raman –

New Zealanders would have a rare opportunity of spending time with one of the most suave actors of the Hindi film industry later this month.

Sunil Shetty, the macho megastar who continues to retain his top status despite the coming and going of many Tarana fine tunes- Robert Khanothers, will appear at the ‘Festival of India 2015’ being organised by Radio Tarana on Sunday, September 20 at Vodafone Events Centre (770 Great South Road) in Manukau. The event will commence at 12 pm and for eight hours, more than 70,000 people will experience the colour, cuisine and customs of India.

Community Commitment

Radio Tarana Managing Director Robert Khan said that the Festival is a part of the radio station’s commitment to serve the community.

“Our events are always free for all New Zealanders and this Festival is our way of celebrating the cultural and culinary diversity of India. We are putting together a packed programme of fashion, cultural items, Hindi film music and dance, stalls selling food and many other items of interest and use and much more. We are confident that ‘Festival of India 2015’ will have enhanced value with the presence of Sunil Shetty,” he said.

Sunil (also spelt Suniel) is a sports achiever with a Black Belt in kickboxing. Following his success in the film industry (110 films including one each in English and Tamil), he launched into restaurant business specialising in Udipi cuisine (reflecting his ethnicity) with a chain of restaurants in India. He also owns clothing boutiques.

Social Service

His wife Mana runs a Non-Government Organisation for under-privileged children.

According to the Indian film media, Sunil stays clear of petty politics of the tinsel world and maintains a low profile.

“His beefcake physique and square jawed face made him a director’s ideal choice for an action hero. He is an amiable actor. He comes across as a gentleman and an actor with a businessman’s mind.”

Indian Newslink will profile the actor and the Festival of India 2015 in its September 15 issue. For further information regarding the Festival, please call Radio Tarana on (09) 3032286 or visit www.tarana.co.nz
