AUT offers course in Biotronics
The AUT University will offer a new course in Biotronic Engineering from next year.
The Bachelor of Engineering programme is a four-year course focusing on integrating electronic and computer systems engineering with human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology to solve problems related to medical systems and devices.
“We hope the new degree course will open a new pathway for students who graduate from school after studying biology to an advanced level.
“People who graduate with this qualification will be able to make the best use of their biological knowledge by combining it with electronic engineering knowhow,” AUT Communications Manager Andrea Malcolm said.
She said the degree will enable graduates to pursue careers as designers of equipment that will be used to monitor and control living organisms be they human, animal or plants.
“There are many organisations in New Zealand to manufacture or develop biotronic equipment including Fisher Paykel Healthcare, Pulsecor, hospitals and biotechnology industries to name a few local industries,” Ms Malcolm said.
