Model of the Fortnight
A positive mental attitude
What a difference a year makes in one’s life!
In August 2008, as she was preparing to participate in Miss Indianz 2008 Beauty Contest (at which she was a Finalist and ‘Miss Beautiful Skin’), we asked her about her passion in life.
“Performing Arts,” was her instant reply.
“I love to entertain people and put a smile on their faces. Most people describe me as a very bubbly girl and a natural performer,” she said.
Since then we have seen her in Indian Diva 2008 at which she won the title, Khoj, an English play by Prayas (August 2009) at which she was a vivacious dancer, and at a number of other events and places.
At each of these, she proved her own belief: “You can achieve your full potential if there is a fusion between talent and passion.”
Divya Hariharan, our Model of the Fortnight, knows when and how to put her best foot forward – and what a foot!
The 19-year-old University of Auckland student (pursuing a conjoint degree in Commerce and Arts) says New Zealand has been her other passion since she migrated from her native India nine years ago.
“I always believed in doing my best, be it at school or in the community hosting events or performing in them.
“A positive mental attitude is essential,” she said.
Divya also likes to analyse issues and circumstances in seeking solutions to problems.
“My philosophy on life is Live, Laugh and Learn,” she said.

Theatre-lovers who have seen Khoj, a Prayas production that went on stage in August, would be pleasantly surprised to discern the hidden talent behind Bhavnesh Soni, the young man who portrayed the old Mr Homi Balsara.
Just as he captured the hearts of people, he loves to seize moments of joy, which include beauty and elegance.
“Man is the only animal that laughs and weeps (we thought a few others also did), for, he is the only one to be struck by the differences between what things are and may have been,” he said.
Mr Soni says he is an amateur photographer but the pictures here and on our web edition may scream a few thousand times in protest.
