Bollywood dance on optic disc
A DVD featuring one of the Bollywood Dance Competitions held as a part of the Diwali festival at the Britomart in Auckland City two years ago is now available at a nominal price of $5, mainly for charity.
Mahayana Films Limited has captured the preparatory stage of ‘Hamari Pahechaan,’ one of the groups that competed at the dance contest held in 2007.
The company’s director Anand Naidu said the film was a documentary, taking the viewer through an unforgettable journey in dance and its place in an Indian’s life.
“Starting on the day of the competition with flash backs to the Hamari Pahechaan’s first day of practice, the film moves through the day and the progression of the team’s preparation, climaxing on the day of the competition and the results.
“Through their journey you learn about the significance of dancing in the life of Indians. You experience their ups and downs and live their lives with them whilst starting to understand how dance and Indian culture are intertwined,” he said.
Mr Naidu said Indian Newslink, Radio Tarana, Top Ten Productions, Asia (NZ) Foundation, Auckland City Council and TV3 were supporting the project, 50% of the proceeds of which will be given to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
“About 5000 DVDs will be available for sale at $5 (as against the normal price of $19.95) at the Diwali Festival at the Via Duct Harbour in Auckland city on October 10 and 11 (see separate story in this Special Report),” he said.
