An Event Manager in the making

Organisers of concerts, entertainment and other programmes who are weary of self-styled event organisers could look forward to dealing with someone with professional qualifications in course of time.

“Event Management is an exciting industry and I am often told that there are no professionally qualified people in some ethnicities. The Indian community, with its great heritage and colourful culture, deserves a better deal,” says Annie Ashley, our Model of the Fortnight.

Her existing qualifications in travel and tourism would be useful in planning events for organisations and individuals.

“Event Management is not pasting posters, marking seat numbers and keeping a few ushers at a show. It involves a gamut of functions ranging from selection of artistes, venue, production and stage management to marketing, logistics and much more. I am learning the nuances of the art and I am sure my Diploma in Travel & Tourism will also be useful,” she said.

Born and raised in Loutaka, Fiji, Annie migrated to New Zealand with her family seven years ago when she was a teenager. Dancing, movies, shopping and meeting friends are among her passions.

“Music by the day and music by the night is what drives me in life, and every time I feel depressed, it comes as a great boon, bouncing me back to normalcy.

“My motto is ‘Yesterday has gone, Tomorrow is not yet born and hence live a full life today without any regrets.’ This approach has been great,” she said.

Annie distinguishes between doing the right thing and doing a thing right.

“I aim for success, not perfection. There is a lot more to life than just struggling to make money,” she said.

According to her, everyone should seek inspiration from the success achieved by others, rather than brooding over matters.

“Youngsters should realise that the world is huge and full of opportunities and hence should not restrict themselves to a single field.”

Wow these pictures are really hot! Anas, I disagree with Shalini. Beauty comes from within a person and not via the camera. I do agree that computer graphics play a vital role in today’s model photos but it is wrong to say that a photographer makes a girl look beautiful.
