A decade of vivacity in West Auckland
Waitakere Indian Association marks its tenth anniversary
Waitakere Indian Association (WIA) will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on May 8 at the Waitakere City Council Chamber in Henderson.
The tenth anniversary celebrations will be remembered as one of the most significant events in the history of Waitakere and in the evolution of ethnic groups in New Zealand.
As well as planning a festivity of significance, The Tenth Anniversary Committee is working hard to showcase our activities and vision and share our growth and success with the past and present members who have supported us through the years.
Incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation and a Trust, WIA functions as a parent body for people of Indian origin in Waitakere, with membership categorised as group, family and single.
Significant events
Diwali, the Festival of Lights and Holi, the Festival of Colours are among the most significant events in the Waitakere Social Calendar, attracting people from the great Auckland region and beyond.
Among the other events of significance are Asia Festival, Children’s Concert, sports and social networking.
Our senior citizens look forward to their monthly meetings during which they discuss issues of concern, exchange information and goodwill, express their problems, and seek solutions.
Businesses have opportunities to network and pursue issues of common interest.
Teaching and learning facilities exist for a host of activities including dance, music and drama, each highlighting the rich Indian culture and heritage.
We have a growing Hindi School, Youth & Sports Group and other activities.
We have outgrown the utility of the current facility. We are currently studying a number of options and would like to move into a larger property to meet our growing needs and the aspirations of our members.
WIA is working closely with the Waitakere City Council and other Non-Government Organisations to bring synergies for the benefit of the resident community.
WIA is keen to contribute towards the improvement of services and facilities in Waitakere and share the available facilities in a spirit of unity and solidarity.
Manoj Tahal is the President of the Waitakere Indian Association and an important resident of Waitakere City. The Local Government, Police and other organisations invariably consult him on issues affecting the Indian community. Read, Hindi School plans Charity Concert in this section.
