Three Indians of Fijian origin ended up as long-term guests of the state after they were charged and convicted of offences relating to the supply of methamphetamine, popularly known as ‘P.’ They were also convicted of administering and dealing in the drug.

Rizwan Ali, Imtiyaz Mohammed Khan and Mohammed Fahim Khan were sentenced at the Auckland High Court last week.

Rizwan (25) was sentenced to three years and nine months, while Mohammed Fahim (33) and his brother Imtiyaz (30) received prison terms respectively of 15 years and 7 years and six months for charges that also included unlawful dealing in firearms.

All three were residents of Manurewa in Manukau City.

At press time, they were being assessed at the Mt Eden prison.

The verdict against the three Indians was indicative of the tough approach of our judges to the menace of drug pedalling on the one hand and the increasing number of people of Indian origin getting involved in the trade on the other.

A police official told Indian Newslink that law enforcement officers were on the trail of a few others and that they would be brought to justice shortly.
