If you and your mobile phone are inseparable, you are best-advised to put the latter to sleep while driving a vehicle or have in place blue tooth devices.
Amendments to the Road User Rule 2004 come into effect today (November 1).
Counties Manukau Road Policing Manager Inspector Heather Wells said a driver should not create, send, or read a text message on a mobile phone or make, receive, or terminate a telephone call while on the move.
“However, emergency calls to 111 or *555 could be made if the situation warrants. It is an offence to hold the mobile phone set and use it while driving,” she said.
Inspector Wells said that a driver may use a mobile that is mounted securely and is voice activated for outgoing and incoming calls.
