If you were to come across a woman with a ‘come hither look,’ or an invitation from a social website, you had better be warned to stay away from her.
You would in fact be doing a service to the community by contacting the Counties Manukau Police on (09) 2611300 or reporting the woman anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
Manurewa Detective Sergeant Eddie Sutherland has issued a warning saying that people of Indian origin were the target of the woman with questionable motives and that three incidents have occurred in the past two months, wherein unsuspecting men have paid the price for their indiscretion.
He said the woman used popular social website ‘Tagged’ for the crime.
“She lures men implying that she wants to meet them. Victims, meeting her at various locations in Manukau, have been tricked into situations wherein a man at knifepoint threatens them.
“The offenders have demanded cash, bank cards, pin numbers and other valuables. They have withdrawn large sums of money from the bank accounts of the victims from ATM machines,” he said.
He said the male and female offenders involved in these incidents have been arrested and charged and appeared in the Manukau District Court.
Mr Sutherland advised people to be vigilant while visiting social websites.
“Meeting people through the internet could be dangerous, since the number of incidents involving unsuspecting men thrown into danger is increasing. Always meet in a well populated public place and make sure someone is aware of your movements,” he said.
