International Yoga Festival in Auckland this month

Four-day event in Albany from February 22 to 25

More than 75 international and local presenters across multiple Yoga styles (including Aerial and Stand Up Paddle) along with over 100 workshops, numerous musicians, concerts and dance will feature at a four-day New Zealand International Yoga Festival later this month.

The Festival will be held at the Kawai Purapura Yoga Resort, 14 Mills Lane, Albany, Auckland from Thursday, February 22 to Sunday, February 25, 2018.

The Festival will also feature many stalls offering natural foods, health products and services.

The Presenters

Among the presenters are some specialising in Yoga to assist with combating anxiety, trauma and depression (now a major health concern in New Zealand) are the following:

Andrea Graham – parent to three teens, health professional, and therapist in private practice – who specialises in supporting parents to help children with behavioural or emotional difficulties; individual therapy for people with childhood issues, anxiety and depression.

Alistair Sweeney – who served in the New Zealand Army for over a decade, including operational tours to East Timor and Afghanistan – and who transformed his own life through the practices of Yoga, Alistair is dedicated to sharing his experiences with others, and especially, those who serve our communities and nation (Military Veterans, Police, Firefighters and Emergency Medical personnel). Alistair focuses on teaching Yoga as a tool for release from what is holding people back in life (trauma, stress, anxiety and depression-related issues).

Chris Henderson – who came to Yoga for the health benefits and the practical and scientific methods. He spent 10 years living the yogic lifestyle and teaching yoga, meditation and chanting at Anahata Yoga Retreat. Now resident in Wellington, Chris works therapeutically in Rimutaka prison and mental health sectors and continues to share on a variety of topics in workshops and weekend retreats around New Zealand.

Nichola Jones – a trained yoga teacher, mother of two and filmmaker who grew up in Christchurch, and who has been involved in Yoga for 15 years and teaching since 2015. Nichola believes Yoga is a way of life and encourages children to participate in Yoga practices.

“It is inspiring to watch children self-regulate with pranayama breathing and see them discover they have the tools to calm themselves down.”

Colourful and Different

The Festival offers a wide range of colourful, vivid and ‘different’ visual subjects for photographers and film crews, in addition to numerous prospective stories about the phenomenal global and national interest in the use of Yoga to enhance our hectic modern lifestyles.
