Keralites celebrate Vishu, Easter

Members of the Kerala community comprising Hindus, Christians and Muslims gathered at the Melville Intermediate School in Hamilton on April 13 to jointly observe Vishu (New Year for Malayali Hindus) and Easter.

Children were the focus of the programme, organised by the Hamilton Malayalee Association with more than 100 people in attendance.

“Children showed their commitment as performers, producers and directors. Their talent was a matter of pride to all us,” Association President Joseph M Joseph said.

Among the notable child artistes were Angel George, Cleo Sagin, Ashly Sagin, Diya George, Adithya Joseph and Earl James.

“It was not only an occasion to express our solidarity as Keralites, despite our varied religious beliefs but also to showcase the rich cultural and social heritage of Kerala to members of other ethnic groups. The Hamilton Malayalee Association looks forward to organise such events that prove our unity and our love for peace and harmony,” Mr Joseph said.
