From Venkat Raman in Delhi

Wednesday, October 26, 20

“India and New Zealand can work together for mutual benefit.”
That was the message that New Zealand Prime Minister John Key is conveying to a gathering of Indian businesses and investors at a business summit currently underway at Taj Mansingh Hotel in Delhi. He said that New Zealand manufacturers are already successful in India and there are several other opportunities emerging.
In a written speech which he was not largely used, Mr Key said that Indian dairy manufacturers nee…d not worry about competition from their New Zealand counterparts. There are several areas in which both can work together, he said .
"I am told that as much as 40% of food that India produces is lost before it reaches your consumers’ plates. Flip that around and that is a massive opportunity for improvement in your primary sector. There are lessons to be learned from New Zealand’s logistics and supply chain expertise," he said.
The meeting has been organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and several other trade bodies and private undertakings.
It was also announced at the meeting that Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) is the recipient of the Sir Edmund Hillary Fellowship for 2016.
