Law firm pursues standard of excellence

A graduate of the University of Auckland, Bharat Parshotam has been practising law since 1985, commencing his career at Fortune Manning, an established law firm in the city, becoming a partner in 1991.

In 1996, he joined B C Patel in partnership, practicing from the current premises at Mt Roskill. Upon Mr Patel’s retirement at the end of 1999, the firm changed its name to Parshotam & Co, and is now known as Parshotam Lawyers.

Bharat Parshotam is from the well-known Parshotam family of Suva.

His grandfather arrived in Fiji from Gujarat in 1919. The firm ‘Parshotam & Co’ in Suva was founded in 1955 by Bharat’s uncle, Kantilal Parshotam, who was later joined in partnership by Bharat’s brother Subhas and his cousin Satish.

Parshotam Lawyers operates from a well-equipped office from a very handy location in Mt Roskill, with ample car parking.

The firm keeps flexible hours to meet the demands of clients and prides itself in providing sound advice and quality service in a timely manner.

The firm also prides itself in the successes achieved by its clients, and notes with satisfaction an increase in the next generation of clients.

Bharat Parshotam ensures that clients are always made to feel that they are welcome and that communication is maintained.

Continuous education

The firm has experienced personnel who are able to quickly assess situations and provide solutions. The firm is committed to ongoing education to maintain standards and ensure that clients are given quality advice on up-to-date laws.

“We are not mere form fillers,” Bharat said.

The areas of practice of the firm are general conveyancing, purchasing and selling of houses, purchasing and selling of commercial buildings, subdivisions, securities work, refinancing, wills, trusts, estates, family law, general litigation, leases, commercial law and general practice.

Parshotam Lawyers acts for all sections of the community, and has a broad spectrum of clients, ranging from large corporations to small businesses.

Bharat is also involved in community work and provides advice on pro bono basis to many.

Multilingual staff

All personnel speak English, with some of them fluent in Gujarati, Hindi and Tamil. The team comprises Bharat Parshotam (Principal), Lisa Estie (Legal Executive), Shehan Ebenezer (Solicitor), Rainu Nand, Belinda Way (Legal Secretaries), Ewa Phillips (Accounts) and Shirley Thompson (Assistant Accountant)

Although just 51 years of age, Bharat has put in place a succession plan.

“The firm will continue on its growth path with the possibility of moving to bigger premises in the near future. However, convenience to clients will be a prominent factor,” he said.
