Auckland, May 20, 2018

Matariki is on the way.

As a part of the wider celebrations taking place across the region, Auckland Council is holding tree plantings over June and July.

In total, 60,000 new trees will be planted across Totara Park, Metro Park East and Puhinui Reserve as part of Mayor Phil Goff’s Million Trees programme.

“In June last year I launched my ‘Million Trees Programme’ and in the first planting season we put nearly 200,000 new, predominantly native, trees and shrubs in the ground across our region.

Public Planting Events

“This year we are accelerating the project by planting more than 500,000 new trees over the 2018 planting season. With Matariki on the way, Council is running public planting events at Totara Park, Metro Park East and Puhinui Reserve. I’m inviting all Aucklanders, their friends and families to come and be part of it. Together, we can make Auckland a greener, healthier more beautiful place to live.”

Along with being a lot of fun and helping to make Auckland a greener, healthier and more beautiful place to live, every volunteer will receive a tree to keep from Trees that Count.

Auckland Council will put on a sausage sizzle after each event.

Free Sampling

Every volunteer will get a free tree sapling to take home from Trees that Count. There’ll also be a sausage sizzle after each planting.
