Local artistes take Bollywood by 360°

Lovers of Bollywood, with all its glamour, colour, costumes, music and dance can expect a scintillating experience as a unique show goes on stage later this year.

Indiance, an Auckland based dance school is putting together a kaleidoscope of song and dance sequences, which its director Akshita Nama calls, ‘Bollywood 360°, a unique event with an appealing theme.

She has been choreographing and rehearsing with more than 100 others for the past several months, with passion and dedication, aiming to take her dance school to new heights of creativity, adding entertainment value to thousands of spectators.

Colourful journey

“Bollywood 360° is an all-original show that will take you on a journey, filled with trials and tribulations. Drama, dance, passion and laughter are among its ingredients to keep you engrossed throughout the performance,” she said.

Akshita said that with its original story, creative stage settings and professionally qualified dancers, the forthcoming show will glorify local talent and bring together a cross-section of the diverse communities in Auckland and other parts of the country.

“An entirely youth driven project, this production showcases the power that the youth have in New Zealand. They are working hard to astonish New Zealanders with their skills and professionalism,” she said.

Daily classes

Established in 2005, Indiance has more than 100 students aged between five and 25 years. As well as running six daily dance classes, the School produces and presents programmes based on Bollywood themes.

The School has achieved self-sufficiency with its own script and dialogue writers, costume designers, choreographers, producers, stage managers and other professionals to conceptualise and present shows.

Indiance has held shows in Auckland, Wellington, Rotorua and Hamilton in addition to organising flashmobs in Auckland.

“We incorporate the lessons taught into our end-of-the-school year productions in which our students participate. These shows give them confidence, self-esteem and motivation to perform in other major shows of Indiance such as Bollywood 360°,” Akshita said.
