Mai Chen, our Master of Ceremonies

We are happy to announce that Mai Chen, one of the most distinguished barristers and solicitors of the country, will be the Master of Ceremonies at the Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture, scheduled to be held from 630 pm at Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland on Monday, July 29, 2013.

She is the Managing Partner (and a Founding Partner) of Chen Palmer Public and Employment Law Specialists, stated to be Australasia’s first public law specialist firm.

Ms Chen advises mainly on managing Government and regulatory risk including deregulation and re-regulation and the impact on business.

Specialist areas

She also advises on the use of public law tools to generate outcomes, policy formation and law reform, strategic public advice, administrative law problems including judicial review, rights to consultation and obligations to consult, constitutional law problems, New Zealand Bill of Rights Act and discrimination law issues. Her other areas of expertise are the Human Rights Act 1993, Climate Change Policy and Legislation. She specialises in State-Owned Enterprises and Crown Entity and Crown Company issues.

Honours & Awards

Chen Palmer, which has offices in Auckland and Wellington, won the Best Public Law Firm in the New Zealand Law Awards in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and the Best Boutique Firm Award at the Law Awards 2010.

Ms Chen is also an Adjunct Professor (Commercial and Public Law) at the University of Auckland Business School.

She was formerly a member of the Securities Commission, the New Zealand Advisory Board of Trade and Enterprise’s Beachheads Programme, the Asia New Zealand Foundation and the Advisory Board of AMP Life Limited (NZ). She was a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University Law School and was on the Councils of Victoria University of Wellington and Wellington Polytechnic.

Vino Ramayah

Vino Ramayah, Executive Chairman of Medtech Global Limited (which is listed on the ASX) and many other companies that have associates and businesses in Australia, Asia, Europe and the US, will be the Guest Speaker at this year’s Lecture.

The core theme of his address would be, “Good Governance: Myth or Reality?’

Former Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand, Lady Susan Satyanand, and many others dignitaries will attend the event.

Mr Ramayah is also Chairman of Cereus Holdings Limited, an investment holding company whose investments in New Zealand, Australia, Asia and Europe include health and bio-informatics, bioscience and information technology.
