Manukau Police are searching for you

Counties Manukau Police District Commander, Superintendent John Tims has announced the creation of local South Asian Advisory Boards, with representation in each of the four Policing areas throughout the District.

These Boards are in addition to the District South Asian Advisory Board, which is chaired by Superintendent Tims.

The four South Asian Advisory Boards will be in the following areas:

Manukau West covering Mangere, Otahuhu, Papatoetoe

Manukau East including Howick, Pakuranga, Otara, Dannemora, Flatbush, East Tamaki, Beachlands

Manukau Central attending to Manurewa, Clendon, Manukau CBD areas

Manukau South covering Takanini, Papakura, Clevedon, Drury, Pukekohe

Members of the Local South Asian Advisory Boards will meet every quarter, with the respective Area Commander chairing the meetings.

The Area Commander is the Inspector that manages the area made up of suburbs.

The Objective

The objective of setting up the local South Asian Advisory Boards is to have additional effective engagement and participation between South Asian Communities and Counties Manukau Police.

The group will jointly address issues relating to the South Asian Community within the District. In addition, the local South Asian Advisory Boards will work closely to provide feedback and support to the District South Asian Advisory Board on issues that are common to the local Board and the District Board.

Nominations

Nominees wishing to be part of their Local South Asian Advisory Board should (a) Reside or work within the area (b) be from the South Asian Community, including people of Indian origin, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (c) be able to contribute towards addressing the issues relating to the five drivers of crime, namely Alcohol, families, Road Policing, Organised Crime and Youth; specifically Drink driving, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, family violence, youth issues and road safety issues (d) be 18 years of age and above (e) must be actively involved within their respective community (f) be action orientated (g) be able to provide advice and views on cultural and religious matters to the Police when required.

Although this is a volunteer role, members of the local South Asian Advisory Board will have an influence on certain Police outcomes in their respective areas.

Senior police officials will consider the nominees and advise those successful.
