Meet your favourite film stars in Auckland

Dorothy Winstone Centre at Auckland Grammar School, which has witnessed a number of national day festivities, cultural programmes, and graduation ceremonies, will transform itself into a theatre later this month.

It would be a veritable venue for lovers of Marathi Cinema on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 3 pm as ‘TimePass 2,’ a box office hit, is screened at the Centre.

Tickets priced at $25 and $20 are available at a number of Indian retail outlets. They can also be booked on telephone 022-1098071 or 021-552299. Payment options include Cash, Credit Card and Paypal.

Rushali Entertainment Limited and Global Gurus Limited are jointly organising the special screening and coordinating the visit of the artistes.

Highest grosser

Neha Mokashi, Director of Global Gurus said that the first version of ‘TimePass,’ released in January 2014 was one of the most successful films in Marathi film industry.

“It was the first Marathi film to cross the Rs 30 Crores (about $6.47 million) mark. It set a benchmark for Marathi Cinema as the highest grosser. The film also marked a spectacular victory for Jadhav, who is a pride of our film industry,” she said.

She said that ‘Natarang,’ which was his debut film as director, won the 2009 National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi.

“He has many other notable films to his credit, including ‘Balak Palak,’ produced by Ritesh Deshmukh and ‘Balgandharva,’ which won three national awards at the 59th National Film Awards. He is known for promoting new film directors in Marathi Cinema by co-producing and presenting ‘Rege,’ (directed by debutant Abhijit Panse) and ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi’ (by Prakash Kunte),” she said.

Jadhav has the distinction of being one of the most creative directors in the Marathi film Industry. ‘Balak Palak’ received critical acclaims and was a major commercial success.

He has directed ‘Tomorrow’s Decided,’ a music video for Pentagram, an electro-rock band based in Mumbai and written lyrics for Saazani, a Marathi single by Shekhar Ravjiani, and has directed its music video.

Several Awards

Jadhav has won a number of Awards. These include the Rajat Kamal Award at the National Film Awards for ‘Natarang,’ as the Best Marathi Film (2010); National Film Awards and Film Festivals at Cannes and Venice- ‘Balgandharva’ (2011); Best Short Fiction Film at the 62nd National Film Awards Official Selection at IFFI (Indian Panorama) for ‘Mitrra’ (2014).

His films have also been shown at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival; Iris Prize Festival (Cardiff, UK); Prague Bollywood Festival; Homochrom, Cologne, Germany;  and Darpan Film Festival, Singapore.

Priya Bapat

Priya Bapat made her Bollywood debut in Dr Jabbar Patel’s film ‘Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar’ as young Ramabai.

She did a cameo in the 2006 Bollywood box-office hit ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai.’

Priya plays a lead role in Marathi Stage drama ‘Nava Gadi Nava Rajya’ with her husband Umesh Kamat and sings for his music album, ‘Anandi and Anand Reunite.’

In 2009, She performed the role of Shashikala in Marathi film ‘Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy.’

Priya will be in Auckland in June 21 for the screening of TimePass 2.

He filmography includes Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000), Munna Bhai MBBS (2003),  Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy (2008), Andhali Koshimbir (2010),  Kaksparsh (2013), Lokmanya (2014), TimePass (2014), Happy Journey (2014) and TimePass 2 (2015).

She is also an artiste in a number of TV serials including ‘Shubham Karoti,’ ‘Aamhi Travelkar’ that she hosts, ‘Natak’ and ‘Navaa Gadi Navaa Raajya.’

Priyadarshan Jadhav

For Web Edition-Meet your favourite-Priyadarshan JadhavThis Marathi actor is also a writer and director. A multitalented person, Priyadarshan Jadhav entered the Marathi film industry at a young age with the zeal to become a filmmaker. He made his acting debut ‘Vijay Aso’ (2012).

As well as writing the screenplay for the prequel, Priyadarshan has written the story of ‘TimePass 2’ and acted in the film opposite Priya Bapat.

His other film credits include ‘Chintoo 2’ (2013) as actor and ‘Hapus’ (2010) as associate director. Portraying comic roles became his forte and he entertained the audience in films such as ‘Jay Maharashtra Dhaba Bhatinda’ (2012).

Priyadarshan has also directed a few Marathi Plays including ‘Mr and Mrs’ and ‘Jago Mohan Pyare.’ He is known for his skits in ‘Fu Bai Fu,’ a Marathi stand-up comedy TV show on Zee Marathi. His filmography included ‘Vijay Aso’ (2012), ‘Chintoo2’ (2013) and ‘TimePass 2’ (2015).
