Miss Indianz, the annual expo of talent among our young women, gets on to the stage this year at the Aotea Centre on Saturday, September 12 from 730 pm.
Organised by Rhythm House Limited, the cultural extravaganza boasts of a qualitative programme comprising music, dance, talent and Q&A segments that distinguish it from some shows that have become mere money-gatherers.
Serious risks
Rhythm House Director Dharmesh Parikh said that his Company undertakes ‘serious risks’ that go beyond financial liabilities.
“Everyone has a different perception of who the winner should be, which means that the decision of the judging panel will not be welcomed by people with vested interests. We are the producers of this show, which utilises our creative skills, knowledge and experience. Unlike the other events in our field, we do not simply ‘promote’ the event and its participants,” he said.
No fees
Mr Parikh claimed that unlike some others, his Company neither charges participants exorbitant fees nor makes them sell minimum number of tickets.
“A nominal entry fee of $90 is requested from each participant, but this is waived if anyone is unable to raise the amount. However, each of them receives two full days of training by industry professionals (meals included) and two VIP complimentary tickets,” he said.
The Participants
Indianz 2015 is likely to enlist about 25 entrants, each of who will have the benefit of a brief profile in Indian Newslink commencing with this issue.
Aruna Narandran
This 24-year-old Singaporean of Indian descent lives in Auckland.
A graduate in law, Aruna Narandran is currently employed at a property development company.
Her interests include acting, dance, working out and travelling.
“I hope that Miss India event will help me by being the stepping stone to achieve my ambition of becoming an actress and a performer,” she said.
Brenda Holloway
This ‘Half-Indian’ says that she always embraces the ‘Indian’ side practicing the country’s culture and tradition.
Currently pursuing International Flight Attendant course at Sir George Seymour College, Brenda Holloway loves learning new things, meeting new people and being a part of Miss Indianz, which she described as ‘an amazing opportunity.’
Manpreet Kaur
Arriving in New Zealand two years ago from India, Manpreet Kaur is an Advanced Network Engineering student in Christchurch.
Her other interests include dancing and modelling.
“I also choreograph dance sequences for groups and I look forward to participating in Miss Indianz to gain confidence and attention,” she said.
Priyena Prasad
A student of Law and Commerce at AUT University, Priyena Prasad is a trainer at Auckland Netball. She represented Auckland in the game for past six years and was the first Indian Netball Captain at Epsom Girls Grammar School.
Raveena Singh
Born and raised in Waikato, Raveena Singh is proud of her Punjabi culture and values.
A Law student at the University, she has a passion for Indian fashion but her diffidence has somewhat been a restraint.
“I hope that Miss Indianz will provide me the opportunity to go under the limelight, become a role model to other girls of Kiwi Indian Heritage (especially shy girls) and get out of my comfort zone to enjoy a fabulous experience,” she said.
Simran Singh
A Construction Engineering student at Auckland University of Technology, Simran Singh evinces keen interest in Indian dances and Indian Cuisine.
