Model of the Fortnight

Human aspirations can be as strange as they come. We have had a medical doctor keen on becoming a dancer, a choreographer looking for a career in marketing and talented musician who wanted to be a beautician.

If ambitions are the driving force, Komal Sri, our Model of the Fortnight would soon be facing cinematographers and not just still photographers.

She would rather be an acknowledged Actress on the big screen, rather than be a Princess on the stage.

The acting bug bit her when she was growing up in the opulent surroundings of the State of Brunei Darussalam (The Brunei Nation), where her father is a medical practitioner.

With her flair for dancing, modelling and acting, Komal was the first choice of organisers of entertainment shows in that oil-rich country.

“I used to be an active participant in every cultural event, either as a choreographer or a dancer. The love for Show Business accompanied me to New Zealand two years ago,” she said.

Even as she pursues her graduate course in Computing and Mathematical Science at AUT University, Komal gives vent to her interest in histrionics. She enrolled herself as a student and performer at the Natasha Baweja Dance Group (Natasha was our Model of the Fortnight, May 15, 2009).

Although a native of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, she could not let go an opportunity to appear in a Malayalam music video due for release in India this month.

Komal said her ambition was to become a South Indian Actress.

“But I am keen to fulfil the wishes of my parents first by completing my education before seeking film roles. I am confident that I would do well,” she said.

Komal believes that her training as a Classical and Bollywood dancer and her experience before the camera would help her achieve her ambitions in the field of acting.
